What is telehealth?
Telehealth aka “telemedicine”is the use of digital information and telecommunications technologies to support long-distance clinical health care, patient and healthcare provider education, monitoring and health administration. Telehealth includes a growing variety of applications and services using two-way video, email, smart phones, secure messaging, wireless tools like remote monitoring, and other forms of telecommunications technology. Due to COVID-19, many states including Michigan adopted telehealth as a standard of care to reduce the transmission of the disease.
Can you get a Michigan Medical Marijuana (MMJ) Card through Telehealth?
Yes, you can.
Telehealth marijuana card services are rapidly expanding as internet access becomes more widespread.
Qualifying for a medical marijuana card in Michigan is now easier than ever, thanks to the state of Michigan’s allowance of telehealth services for medical marijuana cards. The state of Michigan recognizes cannabis as medicine and cannabinoids like THC and CBD to offer therapeutic relief for numerous medical conditions. If you have a chronic medical condition that could be helped by the use of medical marijuana.
Here’s what you need to know about getting started with the process.
The first step is to find a licensed medical marijuana doctor who is registered with the state of Michigan and qualified to recommend MMJ. You can do this by searching online or by asking your regular doctor for a referral. Once you’ve found a doctor, you’ll need to schedule an appointment for a consultation. Since cannabis is a schedule 1 drug it is not technically prescribed by doctors but instead is defined as a “recommendation” by a qualified medical provider. This eliminates if not reduces the risk of doctors being prosecuted at the federal level for approving marijuana cards.
At the consultation, your MMJ doctor will determine whether or not you qualify for a medical marijuana card based on the symptoms you’re experiencing and your overall health. You will need to provide proof of residency in the state of Michigan, as well as a government-issued ID. If you are approved for a medical marijuana card, your doctor will then register you with the state and issue you a certification. This certification will be valid for two years and needs to be renewed on or before it expires. As long as you continue to follow up with the doctor for renewals and pay the state fees your Michigan marijuana card will stay active and you won’t risk lapse.
The process is simple and straightforward, and once you’ve been issued your med card, you’ll be able to purchase medical marijuana from any MI state-approved medical dispensary. Telehealth services have made it easier than ever before to get approved for MMJ in Michigan. If you think that medical marijuana could help improve your symptoms, be sure to talk to a doctor today about scheduling a consultation.
Telehealth consultations are quick, easy, and convenient. Don’t wait any longer to get started on your journey to better health and wellness!

Advantages of Telehealth
One of the key advantages of telehealth is that it can connect patients in rural areas with specialists in medical clinis or urban hospitals for diagnoses and treatments that might not otherwise be available because of distance or even in the case of a pandemic like COVID-19. In many cases, this can result in a considerable convienience, time savings, financial savings for transportation, among other benefits to the patient and the health care system overall. Telehealth can also be used to provide continuing medical education for physicians and other healthcare providers as well as the monitoring of patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease.
Covid-19 Has sped up the need and adoption of virtual care
Due to COVID, online care has become the prevalent means to get a medical card in most states including Michigan. It reduces contact so that transmission of the virus is reduced and lowers the net cost since patients don’t have to be burdened with taking more time off work, driving to the office, and of course the additional expense of fuel so it’s a win/win scenario for patients. We use a HIPAA-compliant telemedicine platform to approve our patients for their medical marijuana cards quickly.
Ensures Timely And Effective Healthcare
Get your MMJ card seamlessly with a telemedicine encounter. These days it’s fair to say that patients want quick reliable cost effective options when choosing their marijuana doctor. One of the more serious challenges facing our healthcare system is directing patients to the right treatment provider as quickly as possible and when they need it most. Patients make unnecessary trips to marijuana doctor’s offices, the emergency room, and urgent care clinics to get to the best treatment provider. Some of the best providers provide online care, especially for medical card certifications. Telehealth offers more timely care by offering on-demand video visits or phone call consultations.
Telehealth services still provide medical marijuana doctors a keen sense of your medical situation and can help them refer you to a specialist or offer immediate care when necessary. Telehealth can prevent a health condition or illness from worsening by allowing medical card doctors to attend to it in the early stages.
Reduces Barriers To Healthcare
Telehealth allows people living in the country’s rural areas or that simply want the convenience of getting their appointment done from wherever they are. With telehealth, you can meet with the doctor virtually or with a simple phone call and get approved for a medical marijuana card. One out of every four people living in rural areas does not receive proper healthcare and in some cases avoid going to the doctor altogether. Most of these patients refrain from seeking treatment because their healthcare facility’s location is too far or difficult to reach.
Telehealth services and telemedicine technology makes healthcare more accessible for patients living in rural communities. They also promote patient-centered treatment and care.
Helps Patients With Limited Mobility
Some cannabis patients may find it hard to reach a hospital during to transportation challenges, disabilities, etc. Telehealth can make a significant difference in their wellbeing. Besides, telehealth services also allow seniors to get healthcare whenever they need it the most. Remote access to medical care is a significant quality of life improvement for several groups of the population, especially those living with chronic health conditions.
Reduces The Strain on Healthcare System
Not all patients with a diagnosis have equal access to care in the United States. Most people fail to receive proper care due to appointment availability issues, trouble finding a ride to the clinician’s office, and several other challenges.
One study states that close to 50% of U.S. citizens struggle to get healthcare on the weekends and evenings and go to the emergency to consult a doctor which is usually more costly as well.
Those who schedule an appointment with their primary care physician that don’t employ telemedicine end up waiting a significant amount of time to meet their doctor. Telehealth has reduced a lot of the cost burden of the over taxed healthcare system. Remote care technologies help deliver appropriate treatment and medical cannabis evaluations to aging patients without going overboard on cost. It is one of the most convenient, affordable, and efficient approaches that allow patients equal and timely access to healthcare and getting their medical ID cards.
As Internet access becomes more ubiquitous, it’s likely that even more people will take advantage of telehealth services as broadband internet speeds continue to increase and webcam technology improves. We can expect even more sophisticated applications to emerge as technologies innovate. For example, real-time three-dimensional (3D) high definition medical imaging capable of seeing 10X the size that the human eye is capable of with robotic assisted surgery, like the da vinci vision system manufactured by Intuitive Surgical . The da Vinici allows surgeons to perform operations remotely. Telehealth offers many distinct advantages.
With Telehealth, older adults no longer have to rely on others or resort to institutionalization. Today’s innovative connected care platforms allow seniors to live out their golden years in their homes. Telehealth services and home-based technology make it a reality for seniors to live their best retirement life.
